Every week, I have at least one new client sit down across from me and say some version of the same thing: “I’ve been thinking about microneedling for years, but I don’t really know what it is or if it will actually work for me.”
I love that question. It tells me that person is doing their research and thinking critically about what they put their skin through. So let me share what I tell every new client who comes in curious about microneedling.
First: What Microneedling Actually Does
Microneedling, formally called collagen induction therapy, works on a simple principle: controlled injury triggers healing. A device with very fine needles creates thousands of tiny micro-channels in the skin. Your skin responds by producing new collagen and elastin to repair those channels.
Over time, that new collagen replaces scar tissue, plumps fine lines, and improves overall texture and firmness.
Most clients describe the treatment as feeling like light sandpaper moving across the skin. Numbing cream is applied beforehand, and by the time we begin, the most common description I hear is, “I can feel it, but it doesn’t hurt.”
What It Is Good For
Microneedling is excellent for acne scars, especially rolling and boxcar scars. It can also help with fine lines, early wrinkles, rough texture, enlarged pores, stretch marks, and overall skin firmness, especially for clients over 35.
What It Is Not Right For
Microneedling is not the right tool for active acne breakouts, severe deep scarring without realistic expectations, or clients who cannot avoid intense exercise and sun exposure for a short time after treatment.
How Many Sessions Will You Actually Need?
For general skin texture and glow, many people notice a visible difference after one to two sessions. For acne scarring, the realistic range is three to six sessions spaced four to six weeks apart.
Collagen production is slow. The full results from each session continue developing for up to three months. I always recommend taking photos at the start of a treatment series so you can compare your progress over time.
What to Expect After Your Session
You will leave looking like you have a mild sunburn. Your skin may feel pink, warm, tight, and slightly flushed. This usually fades within 24 to 48 hours.
For the first day, I recommend using only the gentle serum and SPF provided post-treatment. Avoid retinoids, acids, vitamin C, heavy sweating, saunas, and sun exposure for the first few days. SPF 30 or higher is essential after microneedling.
Why I Pair Microneedling With Nano-Infusion
At Unique Skin Studio, I offer microneedling paired with nano-infusion therapy. Nano-infusion uses very fine, non-invasive tips to push active serums like hyaluronic acid, peptides, and vitamin C deeper into the skin through the micro-channels created during treatment.
I have found that clients who receive the nano-infusion add-on often heal faster, have less redness, and see brighter skin in the days following their session.
Is Microneedling Right for You?
If you are in Draper, Sandy, South Jordan, or the Salt Lake Valley and have been curious about microneedling, the best first step is a consultation. Book a Skin Strategy Session and we will look at your skin together, talk through your goals, and decide whether microneedling is the right starting point or whether another treatment would serve you better first.
There is no pressure and no sales pitch. My job is to help you make smart decisions about your skin, and that starts with a real conversation.
